Natshawn Charity, a beloved member of the Spartan “Legion” family and a respected figure in the Norfolk music community, tragically passed away on November 7, 2025. Known for his talent, leadership, and dedication to music, Natshawn’s contributions as an arranger, High Brass Coordinator, and adjunct professor in the Department of Music at his alma mater will resonate with generations to come.
Beginning his journey as a student in 2017, Natshawn quickly became a key figure in the university’s music program. His passion for music was matched only by his commitment to uplifting those around him. As an arranger, he helped shape the sound of the Spartan Legion Band, leaving behind a legacy of remarkable arrangements that will continue to inspire. His leadership as High Brass Coordinator guided countless students, and his presence as a mentor was one of his most cherished roles.

In addition to his work at the university, Natshawn was a proud member of the Iota Xi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi and the Rho Mu Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America. He also shared his musical talents with his community as a bassist for Renewal Church and RaJazz, where his contributions reached far beyond the classroom and concert hall.
Natshawn’s legacy extends beyond his professional achievements. His impact on those who knew him, both as a mentor and a friend, will live on. His extraordinary passion for music, his warm heart, and his commitment to service have left a lasting imprint on the lives of all who had the privilege of working with him.
We mourn the loss of a true musical talent, but Natshawn’s sound will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of the Spartan community. Rest well, Natshawn. Your legacy will forever echo in the Legion.
