It’s been six days since James “Greg” Powell went missing from Canton, Georgia, and his family, friends, and local authorities are growing increasingly concerned. Powell’s vehicle was discovered near the River Green tennis courts, located just across from several hiking trails. It’s believed that Powell may have gone on foot, and if he’s still out there, his time to receive help is rapidly running out, especially if he is injured.
The search efforts have intensified in recent days, with volunteers and law enforcement canvassing the area around the tennis courts and hiking trails. Yesterday, a potential new lead emerged when a local hunter reported seeing someone deep in the woods, dressed in dark clothing — similar to what Powell was last seen wearing. This could be a significant clue, and authorities are following up on the information to determine if the person seen in the woods was Powell.

Local residents are urged to search the trails and wooded areas, specifically focusing on creeks, hillsides, and any areas where someone might seek shelter. If you’re local or nearby, please consider getting out there to assist, while taking necessary precautions for your safety. Make sure to bring water, stay in groups if possible, and let someone know your planned search area.
Anyone with information or potential sightings should immediately contact the Canton Police Department at 770-720-4883 or call Cherokee County 911. Every bit of information could be vital in finding James Powell and bringing him home safely.
Please share this post to keep his face and story in the public eye — there’s still a chance to bring James home.
